Learning, the fun way

14% of the world population grows illiterate.
Teachers lack time for struggling students. How can technology help teachers make room for remediation?

Context
Lalilo is an online program for K–2 students for developing foundational reading skills. Lalilo is aligned to standards and supports explicit, systematic phonics instruction based on the latest research on the Science of Reading.

Lalilo’s comprehensive standards-aligned literacy program includes phonics, word work, comprehension, and grammar lessons, exposing students to a wide range of opportunities to interact and engage with text and language.

The problem
Many teachers sign up and never manage to get a student play his first session.
In order to let students learn and progress over literacy, we must let any teacher feel empowered to use Lalilo in class. Numbers show that 67% of teachers never manage to run their first session. Let's see why.
2 out of 3 teachers never run a first session.
Why is that?
Surveying inactive teachers with a quick email enlightens us on the why.
3 main reasons appear:
Some teacher fail to use it because of setup complexity. Teacher's mental load is high, schedules are tight. Lalilo needs to fit in this busy worklife to really show an impact.
This should be tackled with solutions focusing on ease of use.
Tests of different solutions: email loops, empty states
From 0 to 1 class
First problem is for teachers to set up their class. I explore empty states and focus on a simple action to perform. I look for a way to highlight the key features of the solution.
Testing a gamified onboarding selling points experience
Emotion at heart
Next problem is to get a teacher to run his first session.
I want to explore a gamified experience to nudge teachers to the next steps eventually preparing them to run their first session.
The idea of having a visual banner drawing teacher's attention with a multi step modal putting the emphasis on emotion through wordings and illustrations.
Onboarding Banner
10% increase
After a few months, we saw a significant increase in the conversion rate of teachers. We gained 10% in the adding students step and 3% in the overall active teachers.
